Description:
The MOCA Educator is responsible for curriculum development and implementation within their assigned classes. They are also responsible for classroom attendance and reports to be sent back to the Youth Education Manager. They are considered independent contractors and community liaisons and are welcome to attend any fieldtrips with the museum. For this particular opportunity we are seeking individuals with an understanding of art history and/or art critique, Museum Studies, and art curation.
Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned after-school teen program classes and/or other MOCA programs per interest.
- Develop class curriculum per session
- Administer evaluations for assigned teen program classes
- Be familiar with MOCA programming including current exhibitions and events
- Assist in registering any new students for teen afterschool program by directing them to the Youth Education Manager or supplying them a registration packet or web link.
- Meet with new students to review rules of program
- Coordinate with Youth Education Manager for all supplies needed for classes
- Create and complete the student community service project, the Teen Art Couture Exhibition
- Coordinate with Education Associate(s) and Youth Education Manager for the student Showcases held on the final day of each session.
- Aid in maintaining supply inventory
- Submit any necessary supply order in an appropriate amount of time Youth Education Manager using provided format
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Fine Arts, Art Education or equivalent experience.
- At least one year of teaching experience
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Strong communication, organizational and writing skills (a writing sample will be required)
- Ability to work independently and meet directives given by Youth Education Manager
- Ability to convey a professional appearance and attitude
- Flexibility and ability to improvise.
- Fingerprint clearance required.
Requirements
- Experience in a variety of museum settings, including speaking toward curatorial practices and art history.
- Experience in the arts.
