Math/science Teacher

Description:

Two Roads Academy (TRA) is an approved therapeutic independent school located in Colchester, Vermont, serving upper middle and high school students, ages 10-21. At this time, TRA is focused on serving students in Grade 8-12; this allows for more targeted academic instruction, and tailored social skills programming for students. TRA is approved to serve students in all disability categories except developmental delay. We are an inclusive program available to learners of differing abilities, disabilities, diagnoses and genders. TRA offers small group instruction with the ability to differentiate and individualize based on student need. We provide a developmentally appropriate, therapeutic learning environment for students whose needs cannot be met in their home schools. Our multidisciplinary team at Two Roads consists of uniquely and highly qualified staff, which include Content Area Teachers (arts, history, literacy, outdoor education, math, and science), a licensed Special Educator, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, clinicians who specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and a crew of dedicated direct-support staff (Behavior ACTivists). Two Roads Academy strives to provide targeted academics for students in alignment with graduation requirements; providing individualized, appropriately paced, and modified curriculum for students while still maintaining fidelity to Vermont's Flexible Pathways and ACT 77 requirements. TRA is fortunate to have multiple general education teachers and multiple special education teachers on staff who provide rigorous instruction which is accommodated and modified to support each student's learning. Academics are provided to students in a small group, individualized manner. Students are assigned to a mixed grade group reflective of their programming (either small group supports or one-on-one supports). All students are exposed to the same academic content. Our curriculum is designed to reflect learning outcomes as represented by Vermont's use of the Common Core standards and Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements, with a specialized focus on the social emotional growth and transferable skills our students need. We strive to stay current with research and current teaching practices; utilizing a data driven approach to evaluate student learning in order to help close any achievement gaps Our staff will and do collaborate with Local Education Authorities, parents, and each student to create programming which is individualized and in alignment with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), supporting them in achieving Vermont's "Portrait of a Graduate" requirements. In addition, our Outdoor Program component creates a unique and powerful entry point for many of the team-building, problem-solving, healthy risk-taking, and cooperative skills students will need in today's society. At Two Roads Academy, our work is supported by an integration of four approaches to learning that we have termed our four pillars. Each of these four pillars is an effective and evidence-based approach to learning and behavior change. When combined, they become a powerful foundation for sustainable growth and learning. Our four pillars consist of: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Outdoor Programming (OP), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and Individualized Education. The purpose of Two Roads Academy is to provide a safe, inclusive and educational environment for all students, and staff, which fosters social and emotional wellbeing. Two Roads Academy is seeking a Math and Science teacher to work full-time, in-person supports to middle and high school students.
