Description:

The Managing Director of Strategy and Impact is a new role within WSFSSH's 10-person Senior Leadership Team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Director, and with direct supervision of four staff members, the Managing Director plays an essential organizational strategy role, by setting the high-level vision and managing the implementation and growth, both internally and externally, of four interdisciplinary, agency-wide support functions that comprise the Strategy and Impact department

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Organizational Leadership

Collaborate with other Senior Leaders and with staff throughout WSFSSH on organization-wide strategic planning and to shape agency-wide policies and practices
Design and oversee efforts to expand WSFSSH's profile among external partners, including philanthropic; governmental; city, state, and/or neighborhood advocacy coalitions; press & media
Champion the interdisciplinary approach/offerings of the Strategy and Impact department throughout WSFSSH and be a catalyst for more WSFSSH staff to ‘think' and 'act' with an Impact orientation
Regularly engage with and provide support to staff and residents throughout WSFSSH; actively model and foster WSFSSH's cultural values; and adopt a collaborative, feedback-informed approach both to the work of the Strategy and Impact department and in setting organization-wide policies and practices in partnership with other members of the Senior Leadership Team

Philanthropic Support

Cultivate high-level connections with current and prospective corporate and foundation supporters to advance WSFSSH's organizational and programmatic priorities
Develop and lead implementation of strategies to grow and solidify WSFSSH's funding relationships with elected officials and individual supporters 
Partner with WSFSSH staff to identify, draft, and submit grant proposals to relevant funders 
Oversee the development and execution of a robust, data-informed annual report
Supervise the Grants Coordinator and collaborate with the WSFSSH Finance department for tracking and reporting on philanthropic support

Data and Program Strategy

Act as a generalist in program strategy, bring together internal and external stakeholders to develop and further ideas for program innovation and partnership which need sustained planning, budgeting, resource identification, and outcomes measurement to expand WSFSSH's impact 
Lead refinement and rollout of a multi-year, agency-wide plan to collect, integrate, visualize, and analyze data for the benefit of internal and external stakeholders
Understand the legal and compliance requirements tied to data privacy and develop operating protocols to ensure that data collection and analysis activities are privacy compliant
Foster adoption of a ‘learning culture' that builds staff interest in evidence-based practices and fosters staff capacity to gather, use, and share data to inform planning, assessment, accountability, and continuous improvement in program delivery
Partner with WSFSSH staff to identify relevant program evaluation frameworks and key performance indicators (KPIs) that can be successfully collected, analyzed, and shared
Supervise the Program and Data Strategist

Communications

Guide the expansion of communication methods and platforms to routinely and bi-directionally engage WSFSSH stakeholders, e.g social media, website, electronic messaging, and print media
Through direct and indirect leadership, advance a strong organizational communication culture that is proactive, clear, efficient, and relevant to internal and/or external stakeholders
Lead efforts to develop a more consistent approach to messaging and information delivery
Oversee the collaborative implementation of high priority communication campaigns to elicit targeted internal and/or external stakeholder responsivity and participate in designing press and media engagement strategies
Supervise the Communications Coordinator

Policy & Advocacy

Facilitate Senior Leadership Team prioritization of common-cause local and state advocacy campaigns to further WSFSSH's impact in alignment with other peer organizations
Collaborate with sector leaders throughout WSFSSH to understand and elevate their policy concerns and potential solutions through individualized advocacy with elected officials
Build a strong network of neighborhood-based supporters, both individuals and organizations, to advocate for WSFSSH's work and that of the field
Lead efforts to set Advocacy-oriented outcome goals for both stakeholder engagement and policy achievement, and to identify and track relevant KPIs to measure success in these domains
Supervise the Director of Advocacy

Candidate Requirements

Strong alignment with WSFSSH's mission and its commitment to embracing, embodying, and practicing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in a relevant field [nonprofit management, business, development, public affairs, communications, data or program evaluation, etc]
Minimum of 10 years combined direct experience across the 4 supervised sectors (Philanthropic Support, Data and Program Strategy, Communications, Policy & Advocacy)
Demonstrable experience with program or project design, development and evaluation 
Prior engagement in collaborative and cross-sectoral/inter-departmental organizational work, with the ability to balance the priorities of a range of stakeholders 
A strategic and systems-thinking approach, with an eye toward both process and outcomes 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to inclusive, transparent, and motivational leadership and supervision 
Experience working in a nonprofit organization of similar size is a plus
Experience with public and media relations is a plus
