The Managing Director, Insurance Business Development will be an integral part of the SLC insurance business development team. The role will be responsible for representing SLC’s investment strategies in the insurance channel. The candidate should have extensive experience working with insurance companies in the U.S. Experience with European, Asian and Bermuda based insurance companies is a plus. The candidate should have strong market acumen and product knowledge across private credit, real estate debt & equity, infrastructure, and public fixed income as well as solutions/consultative oriented sales experience. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset and deliberate, action-oriented approach.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Responsible for new business generation within a defined sales territory covering insurance companies across the U.S. and globally depending on background.
  • Develop a strategic sales plan for the coverage universe and create and maintain a strong sales pipeline by building and nurturing relationships.
  • The role will have significant influence in developing the strategic direction of SLCs insurance business and go to market strategy with the goal of raising the profile and awareness of SLC and its affiliate businesses in the market to become a leading insurance asset manager.
  • Partner with the broader SLC sales teams to act in a client centric way and achieve SLC’s annual AUM and revenue targets.
  • Collaborate with the Client Relationships team to develop cross-selling opportunities with existing clients.
  • Work closely with the Insurance Client Solutions Team to develop bespoke client solutions, multi-asset strategies and thought leadership content.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in an insurance business development role with demonstrated success;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team oriented atmosphere;
  • Strong executive presence and ability to manage key senior stakeholders across the business;
  • Extensive knowledge of institutional investment portfolios, strong asset class knowledge and an in depth understanding of the competitive landscape and industry trends;
  • Insight into insurance regulatory developments, including capital efficient structures;
  • Proven ability to sell consultatively across a multi-asset class platform;
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to explain complex ideas in a simple way;
  • Excellent emotional intelligence in order to nurture and grow relationships and collaborate with various stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to think and perform strategically, bringing innovative solutions to complex prospect situations;
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter;
  • A winning attitude and highly charged, positive disposition;
  • A willingness and ability to travel regularly;
  • CFA designation preferred;
  • FINRA Series 7 & 63 & 3 preferred or willingness to pass the exams upon hire;
