Manager Claims

Description:

Responsible for Berkshire Hathaway Energy claims and related litigation management to ensure a balanced approach between customer service and minimizing financial loss to the company. Oversees a process to investigate, administer, and resolve claims against third parties who have damaged company property. Contribute to practices that prevent or minimize exposure to financial loss from claims resulting from the activities of Berkshire Hathaway Energy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that adequate investigation, analysis, and case management strategies and tactics are used to bring about the successful resolution of incidents involving liability or collection activities.

• Ensure that all case management activities including the valuation of claims are employed with integrity, and result in a fair and equitable solution consistent with department and company policies.
• Direct and monitor claims litigation strategy and activities to ensure that cases are adequately prepared and managed by the outside attorneys assigned to each case while minimizing the costs associated with the defense.
• Use the results of claims investigation and analysis activities to bring about programs or policies that will prevent or mitigate future claims.
• Continually monitor and improve the competency of the Claims Investigators.

Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university plus 6 years of related work experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:

• The process and mechanisms of accidents and injuries leading to an analysis of damages associated with determining the proper valuation of cases for accounting purposes.
• The legal system and process essential for planning case management strategy and for supervising attorney work.
