Job Duties
The Science Museum of Virginia is looking for a Maker Programs Supervisor who will play a key role in coordinating, developing, planning and overseeing educational programming for The Forge, the Science Museum’s makerspace.
This person will spearhead a team of staff and volunteers in the creative development of public and community programs in The Forge to dream up and deliver programs that embrace the creative process and encourage experimentation. And because creativity must run in this person’s blood, the Maker Programs Supervisor will be charged with crafting an exciting and ever-changing programming calendar that keeps the community coming back for more.
They should think beyond the Science Museum’s walls to develop relationships within the maker community to expand the Science Museum’s reach and uncover training opportunities to grow the Forge team’s skillset. And while creativity is hard to measure, this person should be spot on with defining and measuring program objectives.
The default schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, however weekends and evenings are required and not uncommon. Schedules will flex to adjust for evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a proven track record in supervising staff and volunteers in addition to leading maker education initiatives and hands-on programs that integrate science, technology, engineering, math, and/or art. Proficient in researching and assimilating new technologies, systems, and tools for integration into program design. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, adept at effectively engaging diverse audiences. Demonstrated organizational prowess, strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail; capable of proficiently managing and motivating individuals and teams. Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment, while also possessing the ability to work independently and within a team. Flexible, patient, and resourceful, with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. Proven experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, including budget and personnel management. Experience in delivering science education within informal settings. Background in working with at-risk and low-income communities. Highly creative with the ability to devise innovative solutions.
