Description:
Performs routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance on HVAC, electrical and all general building maintenance operations. Performs advanced maintenance as necessary in field of specialization throughout all the facilities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Maintenance Mechanic performs the following essential duties. Other duties may be assigned as needs arise.
- Adjusts, lubricates and maintains HVAC systems: installs and aligns multiple V-belt drives; services fluid-handling pumps of various manufactures, including variable speed pumps and motors; installs, tests and calibrates pneumatic and electronic thermostats, receiver controllers, etc.; cleans air and water-cooled condenser coils; performs daily water quality testing on boiler, cooling tower and closed loop systems and makes adjustments as deemed necessary.
- Performs electrical repairs: installs light fixtures; replaces ballasts, lamp sockets, switches; replaces motors and motor controls up to and including 480 volts; installs conduit; pulls wire and terminates properly; troubleshoots and repairs alarm/CCTV systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs kitchen equipment including ice makers.
- Performs basic carpentry-related projects.
- Services panic bar hardware and door closures. May repair locks, strikes and actuators.
- Performs plumbing repairs: installs faucets and valves; installs new pipe, valves and fittings as necessary; unclogs drains; corrects toilet-flushing problems.
- Performs painting duties as required (e.g., restricted areas such as the mechanical rooms).
- Accesses and operates Building Automation System.
- Records maintenance information as necessary on PC; runs reports as required.
- Performs other assigned duties as required to maintain the safety, comfort and well-being of Museum staff, visitors, and collection.
- Available to respond for emergency call-ins outside of normal shift hours to address critical issues.

RELATIONSHIPS
- Work tasks will be directed by the Director of Facilities.
- Works together closely with other members of Facilities, Protective Services, Conservation and IT.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in HVAC, Electrical, Electronics, Plumbing or Building Maintenance with demonstrable knowledge of other areas sufficient to perform all duties listed above.
- Minimum of four years of diversified mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience in an institutional facility or large office building.
- Journeyman certificate preferred.
