- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and be able to drive between library branches.
- Preferred: Work experience in a library with knowledge of modern library service techniques, practices, and principles.
- Ability to serve library patrons efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to operate computers and their operating systems, especially the shared automation system for library management.
- Must possess intermediate skills in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patrons and colleagues.
- Ability to communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely in written, verbal, and electronic formats.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Work is performed in an environmentally controlled setting with well-lit, tiled, and/or carpeted walking surfaces.
- Low physical demand, requiring a limited range of motion.
- Use of both fine and gross muscles is required, with tasks generally within the optimal working envelope of neck to navel and within arm's reach.
- Use of a ladder or steps to reach shelving is common.
- Required to lift objects of +/- 5 pounds regularly and occasionally objects of 10 pounds.
- Must be able to manually write and work with a keyboard, use a phone system, and possess vision or assisted vision. Limited hearing is acceptable. Verbal communication is essential.
- Ability to drive a vehicle is essential for moving between library branches. Use of mobility assistance devices is not a hindrance.
