Description:
Performance Responsibilities:
- Maintain library collection at direction of teacher librarian.
- Assist students in finding appropriate materials and encourage an interest in reading/ love of reading.
- Assist teaching staff in securing appropriate reference materials.
- Under the direction of the teacher librarian, assist students in use of the media center.
- Keep abreast of children's, middle grade and young adult literature materials in consultation with teaching staff.
- Maintain library area as a functional teaching center.
- Maintain library inventory.
- Assist staff and students in basic technology troubleshooting.
- Recommend additions or deletions to the library collection.
- Library instruction within units of study.
- Provide an appropriate role model for the students.
- Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Must be capable of standing throughout the work day.
- Must present appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness suited to working in close proximity to school age children and adults.
- Must be able to work with interruptions during a work shift.
- Must be capable of working with students with different personalities, capabilities, and physical and mental limitations.
- Must have physical dexterity in limbs and digits necessary to physically interact with children in a school setting.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum of High School Diploma required, advanced degree preferred.
- Prefer experience in library science.
- Prefer experience with computers.
- Knowledge of children's, middle grade and young adult literature.
- Organizational ability.
- Experience in working with children.
- Capable of developing a warm and welcoming environment while providing structure around the expectations of the media center.
