Description:
As a marketing and communications professional, you know that content is key. You know that words and images are powerful, that they can elevate or decimate if not carefully chosen. You know that substance is more important than flash. And, most importantly, you know that whatever you publish must be fresh, enticing and accurate in order to engage the public.
That’s why we’d like to talk with you.
Multnomah County Library is seeking a Marketing and Communications Specialist to join its talented team of marketing and communications professionals who are responsible for leading and evolving the library’s trusted brand.
The Marketing and Communications team leads the library’s internal and external digital and print communication and marketing channels; represents the library through media outreach and inquiry, social media, government relations, and with community sponsorships; writes articles for the library website and newsletters, produces videos and designs graphics; manages translations, develops talking points, and more!
The Marketing and Communications Specialist works with all members of the Marketing and Communications team. You will coordinate the team’s project intake process, assisting library staff with signage and templates, marketing outreach items, communications resources, and requests for consultation. You will help implement the library’s social media strategy, develop content for digital communication channels, support events and programs and serve as the team’s primary editor and fact checker. Your keen attention to detail and editing skills will support priority communications and marketing efforts.
You will assist in managing the social media calendar, and creating and publishing posts for the library’s social media channels, in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator. You will use Sprout software (or other comparable software), Drupal, and any other identified web publishing software to post to library social media channels, library intranet, and public websites, as needed. You will also collaborate with library staff and internal stakeholders, including cultural and linguistic staff, to create multilingual and culturally relevant content. You will employ a strong racial equity lens and incorporate this into marketing and communications work.
You will also serve as the primary editor for external print materials, editing for accuracy and plain language. You will support content, editing and publishing of articles and information for the library website, as determined by the Communications Manager and Marketing Manager. You will fact check statistics, service information, or any other information as needed, prior to publication. You will distill complex information into engaging and accessible stories and informational pieces for diverse audiences, both internal and external to the library, across cultures, ages, lived experiences, and level of library engagement and familiarity. You will coordinate and collaborate closely with library staff groups of color and culture.
In addition, you will create, consult on, and lead the implementation of marketing and communication plans for various systemwide projects, with emphasis on signature library events and programs led by the library’s language and culture teams. You will participate on library events or project teams, and serve as our internal consultant in helping program and library branch staff reach new audiences and broaden their user base through effective marketing and communications strategies.
The library is open and welcoming to all members of our community, including individuals who may be encountering hardships or challenges that affect their behavior and interactions. This position requires someone with the ability to work respectfully and capably with people from all backgrounds and age groups. You must demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity. It will be helpful if you are comfortable working in a collaborative environment with a team that values good humor and creativity.
