Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to support the mission of the library by providing excellent customer service, monitoring public areas, and ensuring the smooth operation of the circulation desk.
Essential Job Functions
- Monitor the library entrance and public areas to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
- Check in and out various library materials in the collection, and process new acquisitions to ensure they are ready for use.
- Sort and shelve books and learning materials to ensure they are organized and easily accessible.
- Assist with items on reserve to ensure that they are available to all patrons who need them.
- Answer basic reference questions and policy questions to help patrons find the resources they need and understand library policies.
- Restock learning material supplies as needed to ensure that resources are always available to patrons.
- Assist with minor collection development tasks to ensure that the library's collection meet the needs of the community.
- Be available to work different shifts for other library clerks as needed to ensure that the library is always staffed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director or his/her designee.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Basic word processing and data entry skills, with the ability to learn and use MS Office Suite including: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to welcome patrons, answer basic questions, convey messages, and report problems.
- Basic technical skills, with the ability to recognize and resolve minor issues with printers and photocopiers.
- Physical ability to lift 25 lb. boxes, maneuver book carts, and shelve books.
- Ability to read and interpret technical instructions related to computer use, phone use, and office and library software.
