Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years of professional library experience providing services to all ages including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.

General Description
Directs and supervises the operations of a specific section or branch of the library.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Acts as Supervisor in Charge (SIC) of the building which entails making decisions about problems and safety of staff and customers, writing up incident reports and handling other issues that arise; prepares comprehensive written reports for Supervisors and for the Youth Services administration.
Oversees the reporting of accurate monthly statistics on reference questions and programs; oversees collection of 70,000 items; assesses the collection frequently to ensure that the library is responsive to customers' need for updated and relevant materials, including weeding and ordering new replacement titles.
Coordinates the planning and implementation of programs including programs for babies, toddlers, early literacy programs for 3-4 year old's and programs for grade school students, teens and adults; prepares budgets for these programs; develops and maintains partnership with assigned elementary, middle, and high schools as well as community based day care centers.
Participates as part of the management team and develops policies and procedures, as necessary.
Supervises, interviews/hires, trains, counsels, coaches and evaluates assigned staff; prepares performance evaluations for subordinate employees; reviews payroll and attendance.
Provides responsive and timely reference and technology-based service to library customers face-to-face or by phone or emails, as well as outreach to schools and centers.
Prepares book displays, updates Reference Section webpages, updates database user guides, handles assignments as a member of the Broward County Library Reference Committee, and works on additional tasks as needed.
Creates original cataloging records for items vendors were unable to catalog; completes records vendors were unable to complete; manages the flow of uncatalogued/incomplete cataloged materials to ensure they are received at owning location in a timely fashion.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with vendors; resolves problems with orders, such as incorrectly filled, records not sent, product not sent, wrong records sent, wrong product sent, delayed or incorrect delivery, or incorrect billing.
Selects all adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction DVDs (digital video discs), music CDs (compact discs), audiobooks, language instruction programs, and video games for the library system.
Performs related work as assigned.
