Lab Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration, Divisional, and Operation of Analytical Facilities 50%

As part of a team, plan Sciences and Mathematics curriculum and growth.

Participate in task forces and committees with others across the UW Tacoma campus, contributing expertise and aligning SAM processes with institutional requirements.

Provide instructional lab support with primary emphasis on lower division biology and chemistry

Collaborate with SAM leadership to identify, prioritize, and develop policies and procedures for laboratory operations, promoting efficiency and consistency in day-to-day practices.

- Assist in creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) necessary for certification and lab safety

- Coordinate new programs upon safety certification

- Work with SIAS Fiscal team, and laboratory coordinators, to coordinate small- and large-scale equipment and supplies purchasing, including instrumentation and service contracts for all major lab and field equipment

- Lead team in the creation and maintenance of SOPs and preventative maintenance routines performed in-house on instrumentation

- Provide assistance in troubleshooting minor equipment issues, and coordinate with staff on major equipment issues

Assist with paperwork processing necessary for collection of specimens allowing specialized materials and equipment to be used at UW Tacoma.

In collaboration with the team of coordinators and student lab assistants, set up equipment and prepare stock solutions for experiments for laboratory and classroom demonstrations.

In collaboration with the team of coordinators, assist in management, and provide instruction to, students, faculty, and adjunct instructors for all modern analytical instrumentation used in biology, chemistry, geology, and physics labs, including field courses.

Coordinate application for lab certifications and stay informed on the latest guidelines, policies, and best practices for certification.
