The School of Art & Art History (SAAH) at the University of Iowa invites applications for an Instructional Services Specialist in our Graphic Design program. The School of Art & Art History is home to many outstanding programs including several that have been ranked by U.S. News & World Report and other publications as among the nation’s best. Our state-of-the-art instructional and exhibition spaces include the Visual Arts Building and Art Building West.
The Instructional Services Specialist in Graphic Design provides application and technical consulting support services for faculty and students in the Graphic Design discipline as well as media support to all disciplines within the School of Art & Art History. This position is responsible for the operations and management of the Media & Design classrooms, checkout centers, and related labs and studios. This position presents demonstrations on the use of equipment and processes of the Media & Design resource labs.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate, maintain and oversee all equipment and processes in the Graphic Design and Media/Equipment Check out center.
Troubleshoot and repair supplies and equipment.
Recommend measures to improve methods, equipment performance, scheduling and quality control. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and safety.
Assist faculty in researching, developing and implementing grants to improve the quality and functionality of the lab.
Provide workshops and instruction for undergraduate and graduate students utilizing specialized equipment.
Direct and consult with CLAS Technology Services to coordinate software development needs for studios.
Train faculty, instructors, TAs and student employees on checkout center policies, procedures, and equipment operation.
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Strong knowledge and proficiency in graphic design software and tools commonly used in the industry.
Experience with the technical aspects of media and design equipment and processes, including large format printers, laser printers, garment printers, etc.
Experience in ordering, maintaining, and troubleshooting supplies and equipment related to media and design.
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
Strong communication skills
