Duties

  • Participates in the evaluation and validation of the Locations IT requirements and, following approval, oversees equipment repairs, modifications, service, and purchase.
  • Partners with research unit to develop supplemental guidance and manuals, documenting IT components of research products.
  • Communicates with location and ARS personnel, other scientific and IT staff, and vendors on IT matters.
  • Prepares reports (in graphic and tabular format), briefings and training materials, memoranda, and letters in support of the IT activities.
  • Installs and manages hardware and related software on computers, printers, electronic scale systems, bar code equipment, and other scientific equipment.
  • Participates in diagnosing and correcting anomalies with hardware and software.
  • Provides support to users in a wide array of Microsoft products including MS Outlook, Excel, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and telecommunication software such as virtual platforms.
  • Operates and manages unit-specific IT systems, such as local or national scientific data management systems, and provides support to routine operations such as order processing and data download when requested.
  • Monitors and detects technical programming, hardware, software, and procedural problems, and provides first stop diagnosing and correcting anomalies with hardware and software.
  • Diagnoses and resolves problems in response to end user support requests and as appropriate, seeks support from regional or national IT specialists.
