Human Resources Specialist

 

Description:

This position is shared between North Hennepin Community College and Hennepin Technical College,providing services equally to both. This position exists to act as the Designated Department Insurance Representative (DDIR), answers employees questions about benefits and retirement, coordinates and administers all leaves (Vacation Donation Program, FMLA, PPL, sick, faculty and administrator leaves, etc.), serves as Workers’ Compensation Coordinator, and manages Unemployment Insurance activities. This position supports and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at both institutions.

This position will work at least 2 days per week at each campus (campuses are located less than 2 miles apart), and may telework 1 day per week, if desired.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related field OR 3 years’ experience in HR or benefits administration OR an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
  • Human Resources technical or professional experience in multiple HR functions such as benefits, worker’s compensation, leave administration, retirement administration, and HRIS.
  • Knowledge of employment laws such as: FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, ACA.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone or through written correspondence and effectively communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience with and ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills showing the ability to prioritize work, independently initiate actions to meet deadlines, establish and maintain recordkeeping systems and complete all aspects of assignments under minimal supervision.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills sufficient to recognize problems, identify causes, research and evaluate alternatives, and choose/recommend the most effective action/solution.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and carry out assignments with minimal supervision while keeping supervisor and team members informed.
