Human Resources Generalist

We’re hiring for: In the pursuit of our mission, we are hiring a Generalist on our Human Resources team. As a Generalist, you will join the team that is responsible for handling all Human Resources tasks for the District, so you will be involved with hiring, personnel record keeping, payroll processing, and more. In particular, this new Generalist will most likely lead the charge on ensuring FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) compliance as well as monitoring workers compensation claims. Above all else, the person who will be offered this job should be an empathetic communicator and a detail oriented over achiever.

You have:

  • Required:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (or related field)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
    • A commitment to Lansing School District’s mission and vision
  • Recommended
    • Experience using an HRIS (E Finance a plus!)
    • A working knowledge of of employment laws and recordkeeping guidelines
    • Previous experience working in K-12 public schools or labor unions

You will:

  • Manage all leaves of absence including FMLA and worker’s compensation claims, including following up with employees and providers
  • Lead projects aimed at improving HR processes
  • Maintain HRIS records and data
  • Assist teammates in their tasks related to credentialing, hiring, onboarding, etc. (in other words, serve as a jack of all trades on the HR team!)
