Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the Village’s Household Programs, including day-to-day management of paid staff, volunteers, fellows, and interns. Oversight of the Small House, Fenno House, Fitch House, Towne House, Richardson House, Bixby House, and the Freeman Farmhouse
- Working collaboratively to meet the interpretive/educational goals set in the Interpretive Guides for the households
- Lead the Historical Foodways programs within the households – collaborating with Food and Beverage when appropriate
- Develop and manage an annual budget for all costs associated with the operation of the Household Program
- Closely work with the coordinators of Agriculture and Horticulture to accomplish a true working household experience in the various historical scenarios, including but not limited to dairying, butchering, kitchen garden produce, and ornamental gardens
- Working together with curatorial and textile production to guide our domestic textile program
- Alongside the Volunteer and Intern Coordinator support the Volunteers and Interns working in the historical households
- Work directly with the Education Department to plan, develop, and implement immersive educational programs for Charter School Programs for OSA and WCA
- Assist in the collaboration with Coggeshall Farm Museum and growth and improvements to their household programs
- Serve as an active ambassador and advocate for the OSV Household Program both within the museum and externally
- Day-to-day responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, while also observing and assessing the effectiveness of programs and staff
- Year-to-year responsibilities include recruiting, training, and mentoring staff, annually conducting performance appraisals, and participating in staff calibration sessions
- Plan, organize, lead, and/or participate in special events and work with OSV’s Advancement Department to promote programs
- Successfully balance face-to-face communication with use of technology in order to ensure clarity of communication with colleagues
- Understand, identify and appropriately respond to the multiple learning styles of a diverse audience that includes students, families and other life-long learners; actively engage these audiences using a range of techniques including hands-on participation, tours, demonstration, lecture and others.
- Preserve the historic buildings, gardens, landscapes, artifacts and reproductions in OSV and CFM by caring for them properly.
- Ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of work areas; Safeguard visitors and staff by being alert to foreseeable health and safety hazards.
- Understand and observe all OSV policies and federal, state, and local laws.
- Work evening programs such as but not limited to Halloween and Christmas programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
