Description:

Responsible for, receives, reviews, prices and analyzes insurance risks submitted. Works independently within grants of published underwriting authority. Provides assistance and advice to associates in other functional areas. The underwriter is responsible for sales planning and monitoring, customer relations and all administrative activities. Markets to and develops/maintains agency and/or broker relationships. Works closely with all departments, outside agencies/brokers and management.

This is a full-time/exempt role.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Analyze and evaluate new submissions and renewal accounts to determine acceptability of the risk.
  • Design and issue commercial package policies based on insured’s unique needs.
  • Orders inspections, engineering reports, D&B reports or other reports that are necessary to evaluate quality of risk.
  • Reviews, interprets and processes data from various sources, including applications and loss runs.
  • Exercises independent judgment and decision making. Works independently within broad established guidelines.
  • Recommends changes to established policies, procedures and guidelines to maximize profitability and underwriting results.
  • Possess awareness of time considerations for processing of quotes on new and renewal business, as well as, endorsements.
  • Visits with agents, distributors and (customers). Reports on prospects, leads, quotations, renewal activities, new sales and lost opportunities.
  • Works with existing agents/distributors to establish goals and strategies to achieve profitable production.
  • Collect specific market intelligence, trends and competitor activities. Provide to agent and make recommendations to improve overall profitability and agent’s business.
  • Collects data and provide to agent product enhancement and development.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to achieve written premium and loss ratio goals.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
