Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cares for and maintains grass, shrubs, plants, trees, sidewalks, paving blocks, steps, landings, parking lot, and drains by use of broom, rake, edge trimmer, leaf blower, lawn mower, Bobcat, and pick-up truck
- Uses shovels, snow blower, Bobcat, and a pick-up truck with a plow to remove snow and ice from Museum entrances, exterior stairs, landings, sidewalks, driveway, and parking lot
- Performs daily rounds of Museum property, picking up refuse and emptying exterior garbage containers
- Maintain safe, clean, and clear entrances to the Museum at all times
- Works with team leader to perform scheduled maintenance and monitor inventory of lawn and snow removal tools and equipment to keep them in safe, working order
- Raises and lowers American and Chicago flags, including setting flags at half-staff
- Communicate professionally and effectively with the public, coworkers, supervisory staff, and contractors in the performance of daily groundskeeping tasks
- Maintain safe and clean office, work areas, tool/equipment storage areas
- Assists facilities maintenance staff when needed
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by team leader, supervisor, managers, or director
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Groundskeeping or landscaping experience.
- Snow removal experience is a plus
- Valid Illinois driver's license
- Ability to work in exterior settings year around a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions
- Ability to come into work early and stay late when weather conditions require, i.e., snow, wind damage, or flooding
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching upward/downward, grasping, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing, driving
