Description:

The Graphic Designer works in the Graphics Department. Key responsibilities include production of a wide variety of signs and printed material. The Graphic Designer assists in the creation and placement of museum exhibition, marketing, and way-finding signs. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assists Sr. Graphic Designer in creating signage, labels, and with any graphics needs (production art and some design, hands-on cutting, and installation of exhibition and event signage/materials).

  • Work with Sr. Graphic Designer on logo development for exhibitions and special events.
  • Work with Sr. Graphic Designer to create digital files for print and/or online display.
  • Work efficiently to produce high-quality work and maintain a high degree of accuracy under strict deadlines in a variety of design and graphics formats.
  • Design and develop graphic layouts that adhere to brand and follow brief, under direction of Sr. Graphic Designer.
  • Create final art files—preflight and package files for various output methods for a variety of projects including, magazine, multipage brochures, and direct mail as well as invitations, display ads, vinyl and large-format signage, and more.
  • Design, layout, and format graphic files for online display for website and social media.
  • Print, mount, trim, and help install graphics in galleries, when necessary.
  • Adhere to museum brand and style guidelines.
  • Keep graphics office area clean and orderly for efficiency and the safety of personnel.
  • Attend meetings and perform other departmental tasks.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in graphics communication, design, or related field.
  • Marketing, administrative coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of materials as well as print methods for environmental signage is helpful.
  • Be proficient in Creative Suites programs including; Illustrator, Photoshop (including photo retouching and color matching), and InDesign.
  • High level of proficiency and experience in creating vector art files helpful.
  • Ability to create files for print.
