Description:

The Burke Museum values dynamic and accessible design on all platforms. To support this, we are seeking an energetic, creative, and organized graphic designer to join our Communications team. The primary responsibilities of this position are to create high-impact design assets to market museum events, programs, and exhibits. Key aspects of this position include assisting with multiple marketing campaigns at a given time, digital asset management, and coordinating with museum staff from diverse backgrounds and departments. The Graphic Designer will produce creative digital and print assets according to brand guidelines, using existing files or by creating new designs, depending on the campaign.

As an integral member of the Communications team, this position reports to the Assistant Director of Communications and collaborates on museum-wide initiatives, working closely with each department.

Responsibilities:

Project Management-15%

  • Create short- and long-term plans for graphic design needs, projecting ahead to proactively determine project and team needs
  • Manage digital assets, including organizing photos and graphics
  • Encourage interdepartmental compliance with brand guidelines
  • Receive and prioritize design requests from other departments based on need and workload
  • Coordinate the production of interpretation signage
  • Develop, monitor and work within project budgets

    Graphic Design-80%
  • Collaborate with teams across the museum to design assets for publicity of museum exhibits and programs (e.g., postcards, event brochures, informational screens, signage, and other documents)
  • Create interpretation and special exhibit graphic design
  • Work with Marketing Strategist to coordinate advertising placements
  • Collaborate with Assistant Digital Communications Manager on a variety of tasks (social media content, large format print campaigns, etc.)
  • Provide input on copy writing and editing

    Program Support-5%
  • Attend key museum programs and events, collect marketing surveys from visitors, schedule social media posts, when applicable
  • Take photos and video at public programs/events for future promotional and archival use

    Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, Design, Graphic Arts, or Visual Communications
  • 2-3 years of experience with graphic design, communications, photography, or other related fields

    Desired Experience and Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva
  • Experience designing for print and digital formats
  • Advanced photography skills, including event photography, photo editing, and image organization
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS
  • Strong writing skills
