Description:
The Grainger Science Hub Coordinator position works to create, develop, and engage museum visitors in Public Learning Experiences and events related to the Grainger Science Hub. This position collaborates with a second Grainger Science Hub Coordinator, and reports to the Public Learning Experiences Director in the Learning Center. Please note this open position has a regular schedule of Tuesday - Saturday.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently opening, closing, and assisting team members in the Grainger Science Hub exhibit space while staffing, hosting, and facilitating hands-on programming and visitor interactions.
- Researching, writing, developing, piloting, learning, training, and facilitating unique content for hands-on Grainger Science Hub programming, events, and activities that highlight Field Museum collections and science
- Creating, coordinating, facilitating, and/or executing in-person, virtual, and special museum programming or events as assigned.
- Maintaining and organizing Grainger Science Hub resources, data collection, specimens, and materials to be "visitor ready" at all times
- Collaborating with Field Museum scientists, Public Learning Experiences team members, or other Field Museum staff to create, update, train, learn, or facilitate the frequent rotation of content in the Grainger Science Hub and other various museum programming
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, sciences, communications, or similar field of study (or equivalent experience) is required. Fluency in Spanish is a plus
- 3 to 5 years experience in one or a combination of the following: classroom teaching, educational program execution, or creating, researching, writing, or developing unique learning experiences for all ages in a fast-paced environment
- This position engages directly with the general public, K-12 students, and Field Museum members, partners, and donors. Candidates must be experienced at welcoming, organizing, and interacting with the public in a drop-in setting and possess the ability to read an audience through formal teaching, stage performance, or equivalent. Candidates must enjoy hosting and proactively engaging with museum visitors of all ages in a friendly and professional manner
- Candidates must have strong research, writing, and communication skills. Candidates must be able to successfully work both individually and collaborate as part of a team to complete projects on a deadline. Candidates should enjoy consistently developing and executing new, unique, creative learning experiences for museum visitors of all ages. Candidates should possess a passion and ability to learn natural science and history topics on an ongoing basis
- This open position has a regular weekly schedule of Tuesday - Saturday. Schedule flexibility is required for occasional special events, interviews, or training sessions, and a rotating holiday schedule that may occur outside of the regularly assigned schedule or regular museum hours. Staff schedules may be subject to change. The Grainger Science Hub is open and staffed daily, 10am. - 3pm
