Description:

The Earth Research Institute is an ORU serving faculty and researchers from the Bren School, EEMB, Earth Science, Geography, MSI/NCEAS, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, and Physics. Additionally, ERI is home to the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration (CCBER); and manages HR for another unit. ERI manages pre and post administration for numerous types of extramurally funded projects including: research, environmental restoration, fellowships, curation, conferences and science education. This position is responsible for analytical, financial, and compliance support for the Institute, while using professional judgment, leadership, high level analysis, and accounting skills. Collaborates with C&G Unit Manager and MSO on department-wide operational issues and contributes to management planning. Provides expert consultation and guidance to principal investigator's (P.I.s) on the appropriate management of their awards. Job responsibilities include the management of extramural agency billing (multiple agencies, differing requirements); oversight, reporting, and compliance of matching funds and cost share; providing financial analysis to ERI PIs regarding spending patterns, agency guidelines, and restrictions; management of the ERI/CCBER Recharges ($500K+ annually) and development of the related Rate and Recharge packets; special projects; and contract and grant administration, including contract and grant proposal and budget development, as well as financial management and post-award administration for a range of ERI PIs. This position is also responsible for independently and proactively researching, analyzing, communicating, and implementing project plans and department-wide procedural changes resulting from changing regulatory conditions and new University policies and systems. Maintains knowledge of: 1) accounting principles, fund and cost center accounting, budget analyses, and automated accounting systems in order to monitor, analyze, and report fiscal activities for extramural funds, 2) contract and grant policies of the University and 80+ extramural funding agencies, 3) University policies and procedures of Personnel, Academic Personnel, Graduate Division, Accounting, Travel, Purchasing, and Business Services. Work with other Team members to achieve Institute goals.
