Description:
The Family Center Assistant is a part time role that works directly in the Family Center facilitating hands on activities, in a play and art making space. This individual is responsible for maintaining the classroom and supplies for the shift and works as a member of the Education team to optimize visitor experience and promote art education.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Delivers excellent customer service through communication with children, caregivers, and the community.
- Engages family visitors in inter-generational art-making and play in the Family Center; assists in facilitating hands-on activities during family and/or early childhood programs.
- Assists Family Center Manager in developing hands-on activities that are related to the collection and special exhibitions that are age-appropriate and encourage creative thinking and free expression.
- Develops and maintains familiarity with the scope of the Museum collection and educational offerings.
- Uses critical thinking and decision-making skills to respond to and troubleshoot situations.
- As a public benefit corporation, the Museum always requires every staff member to act as a visitor advocate. This includes acknowledging visitors and striving to make them feel welcome, comfortable, and eager to return.
- Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Family Center Manager. Works as a part of the Education team; works extensively with children, young adults and families in a public setting.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED, required. Associate’s degree in studio art, art education or early childhood education preferred, or currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in early childhood or art education.
- Requires 1-3 years’ experience working with children in an educational setting.
