Description:
The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a dynamic individual to join our facilities repair & maintenance team. This position is responsible for performing the maintenance and upkeep of both our museum buildings and grounds, as well as assisting with the security of the facility to ensure that a safe, clean and well-maintained environment is available for guest and staff enjoyment. This position will provide maintenance services as needed and/or assigned, assisting with a wide variety of maintenance activities; address immediate operational and/or safety concerns; and assist other departments as required.
This is a full-time position with state benefits and museum membership.
Must be available to work a rotating weekend, occasional evening and holiday schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with additional coursework in the trades’ field, or equivalent training or experience. This position requires the ability to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing facility maintenance requirements. Knowledge of the use of basic hand tools, painting and cleaning skills, ability to follow instructions related to breakdown and re-assembly of equipment, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to lift heavy items is required. Knowledge of trades and grounds maintenance, as well as basic skills in techniques, tools, materials and equipment use. Valid driver’s license required.
