Description:
Plant and Flanged, headquartered in Blaine, Minnesota, specializes in estimating, pipe fabrication, and material supplies for contractors in the Water Works Industry. The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing, bidding, and preparing proposals for projects while ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and contract terms. The role requires expertise in costing, value engineering, and job analysis to support accurate and competitive project bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full-cycle estimating process, from identifying potential projects to contract award.
- Develop and submit accurate project proposals at least 48 hours prior to bid letting.
- Analyze drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Research and clarify contract requirements before bid submission.
- Monitor and incorporate addendums into bid documents.
- Develop full-scope estimates based on project documents.
- Engage with contractors and suppliers to gather quotes and pricing.
- Maintain a bid database tracking wins, losses, and leads.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking and client visits.
- Maintain customer relationships and present estimates effectively.
- Track pricing and performance data for competitive estimating.
- Ensure timely response to customer requests.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of estimating experience in the Water Industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Bluebeam (or similar software).
- Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work within specified timeframes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in the Water Works Industry.
- 2+ years of specific estimating experience.
- Strong mathematical skills (fractions, decimals, calculations).
- Ability to read plans, follow specifications, and cross-reference project requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Office setting with occasional visits to manufacturing areas.
- Frequent computer use, requiring sitting and repetitive hand movements.
- Moderate bending, pulling, lifting, and reaching.
- Minimal travel (less than 5%), as required.
