Engineering Technician

 

Description:

As a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, GS-0802-12, your typical work assignments under normal supervision may include the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts, surveys, and reviews all engineering drawings, plans, specifications, standards, regulations and other applicable references.
  • Consults with professional personnel in various disciplines regarding discrepancies in contractor proposals before the Contracting Office negotiates with contractors on matters affecting the design of projects to assure project requirements are met.
  • Develops statements of work, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for work to be accomplished by service contracts.
  • Performs final and in-progress inspections of contract work to assure that workmanship and materials are satisfactory; customer requirements, specifications and special requirements such as accomplishment of safety regulations are met; and in contract situations, work is performed in accordance with contractual agreement.

You may qualify at the GS 12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in: application of technical engineering design related to complex design and construction sufficient to monitor work for compliance with contract requirement; review designs for conformance with industry standards; and use contracting processes to provide oversight for civil, structural, and engineering contracts.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
