Energy & Sustainability Engineer

The client is a small business that supports the mission of government and commercial clients by providing sustainable solutions based on sound engineering, science, economic, and management principles. Employees are encouraged to develop a diverse set of skills to better support our clients.

 

Client has an immediate need for an experienced Energy & Sustainability Engineer to support various clients in the Washington, DC area.

 

Client seeks candidates with experience providing energy and sustainability support to government clients; federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements; energy management, including energy and water efficiency strategies; sustainable design and construction; and best practices for industrial, construction, and office operations; and other subject matter expertise.

 

Professional experience with the Energy Act of 2020, Energy Policy Act of 2005, Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, and Executive Orders (EO) is highly preferred.

 

Proficiency in U.S. Department of Energy’s Compliance Tracking System (CTS) and Energy STAR Portfolio Manager are also a plus.

 

Job duties include:

 

Identifying improvements to complex BAS and HVAC systems;

Conducting commissioning, retro-commissioning, or re-commissioning on buildings;

Energy modeling using software programs including eQUEST, Trane Trace, or Carrier HAP;

Microgrid, renewable, and alternative energy project implementation and feasibility studies;

ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits;

Identification of energy and water conservation measures (ECMs/WCMs);

Facility electrical infrastructure improvement projects;

Oversight of energy and water efficiency projects (installation, implementation, commissioning, and measurement and verification);

Analysis and reporting of monthly utility data, metering interval data, and/or logger data; and

Oversight of work and deliverables from energy service companies (ESCOs) during UESC or ESPC development including preliminary assessments, investment grade audits, commissioning documents, and measurement and verification reports.

 

A BS or MS degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, energy management, building systems, civil) or an energy/sustainability-related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical, technical writing, and verbal communication skills.

Ideal candidates will possess 3 to 5 years of experience in HVAC system and BAS analysis and enhancement; energy modeling; and commissioning, retro-commissioning, and re-commissioning. Candidates with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) or building commissioning professional (BCxP, CBCP, CCP, CxA, or equivalent) licenses and certifications are desired.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience, and at least one of those years of experience providing energy, environmental, and sustainability services to government clients.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and currently hold or be able to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
