Duties

You will serve as an Electrical Engineer and be responsible for developing the designs, plans, specifications and estimates for all electrical engineering work that is required at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Completing independent technical reviews, project scoping, field investigation, planning, cost estimating, problem and conflict resolution, scheduling, design production and construction administration.
  • Providing detailed technical decisions regarding scope, intent and extent of the work. Work includes site investigation involving facilities type engineering issues, problem identification and documentation as required to define the scope of the problem, establish appropriate funding limits, set an appropriate timeline to ensure unit mission needs are met and establish the level of engineering effort required to resolve the problem.
  • Preparing drawings, specifications and cost estimates including computer aided drawing for both design and drafting. Final design development includes all efforts required to take a project from conceptual to final design completion.
  • Guiding and evaluating Architectural/Engineering (AE) contractor efforts and assessing the technical and project progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allotted. Oversees AE design efforts and deliverables from conceptual to final product to include: reviews plans, specifications, and cost estimates for technical adequacy.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the contract requirements are satisfactorily incorporated into the design work.
  • Evaluating and providing assessments of contractor's performance and proposals for value engineering modifications.
