Electrical Controls And Automation Engineer

 

Description:

Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical control systems for all custom industrial deburring, parts washing, and metal finishing machines. Works on multiple equipment projects at the same time and is responsible for all electrical – related aspects of each project, from initial electrical design to installation and commissioning. Will use SolidWorks and Solidworks Electrical software to model various electrical components, enclosures, panel layouts and wiring schematics as needed for new designs and re-design of existing machines. Works with various customer-submitted industrial equipment specifications as they relate to the electrical portion of the equipment order, write programmable logic controller (PLC) programs along with programs for operator touch screens that are used in the machines (primarily using Studio 5000 and Connected Components Workbench), inspect the electrical portion of used equipment that is returned for rebuild, confer with vendors and work with purchasing to specify electrical components needed for projects, and work with customers during equipment build and commissioning. Talk with customers on the phone and via email to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues. Travel as required to troubleshoot and service equipment in the field and participate in machine start-ups, commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing. May require international travel.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design functional electrical systems through the development and testing of component systems.
  • Research and specify components for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Devise testing methods and properties to troubleshoot and confirm the functionality of electrical components and systems.
  • Uses standard product engineering data to develop electrical controls.
  • Develop electrical products and systems to meet customer specifications.
  • Develop schematics for electrical controls, model enclosures and electrical assemblies based on schematics.
  • Research manufacturing processes to find innovative processes to improve or modify current methods.
  • Communicate engineering information across departments to facilitate successful completion of projects.
  • Perform detailed calculations using algebraic, trigonometric, and geometric formulas and higher level math to establish standards and specifications.
  • Inspect installations and observe operations to ensure compliance with design and equipment specifications and safety standards.
  • Modify designs to meet customer requirements and expectations.
  • Design, incorporate and integrate robotic and other automated systems to interface with ALMCO and other customer equipment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology or related field is required.
  • Experience with three-phase industrial electrical system design and a general working knowledge of industrial machinery is required.
  • Preferred experience in wiring and panel building.
  • Preferred experience in programming and troubleshooting a variety of PLC's and operator touch screens.
  • Computer skills to include a working knowledge of SolidWorks software and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience programming FANUC robots beneficial.
  • Ability to analyze problems and select proper corrective action.
  • Good written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to organize tasks and work independently.
  • Knowledge of UL, ULC, CE, CSA, NEC, NFPA requirements.
