Shakespeare & Company is a non-profit theater company located in Lenox, Mass. The Education Program at Shakespeare & Company invites and empowers students to bring the classical poetry and plays of Shakespeare alive in ways that are personally inspiring, educationally rigorous, and theatrically compelling. The Company seeks an experienced and imaginative individual to fill the position of Education Tour and Professional Development Manager, responsible for the promotion, implementation, and daily management of the Northeast Regional Tour and Professional Development Program in the Education Department. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and people management skills with experience in creating and managing a culturally diverse team environment.
Professional Development Workshops are designed for Teachers, Directors, and Teaching Artists to help create engaging learning experiences of Shakespeare in the classroom and on the stage. Teachers learn strategies to help students actively experience the power of Shakespeare’s language, enabling a more passionate, personal, and comprehensive experience of the characters and understanding of the plays.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE NORTHEAST REGIONAL TOUR OF SHAKESPEARE
- Schedule all aspects of the Tour including auditions, rehearsals, performances, and travel
- Works with Marketing and Education staff to produce promotional materials and content
- Actively pursues and contracts performance opportunities for the Tour; including school and venue research, email and phone outreach, and follow-ups with previous bookings
- Works closely with Production and Costumes to coordinate scheduling and performance/road needs as they arise
- Works with Education Staff and General Management to hire all artistic staff (Directors, Designers, etc.)
- Manages Tour Booking information including contracts, payments, weekly schedules, and correspondence
- Serves as primary technical and logistical contact with Tour schools/venues
- Assures the readiness of performance spaces contracted for Tour presentations by contacting venue liaisons
- Coordinates Tour actors’ travel and accommodations with Company Management
- Coordinates vehicle needs, scheduling, and day-of-performance details for the actors, and facilitates payment for gas, hotels, per diem, and incidental expenses
- Tracks payments and expenses, and maintain paperwork for Finance department
- Represents Shakespeare & Company as House Manager at all in-house performances of the Tour, including coordinating student seating, ticketing, and other needed logistics
- Coordinates and collaborates with the Education Staff in the annual revision, publication and distribution of Tour Study Guides and Shakespeare & Company Education Training manuals as well as any other needed printed materials.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
- Works with Marketing and Education staff to produce promotional materials and content for all Professional Development Workshops
- Works with Education staff to create new Professional Development opportunities
- Promotes and actively engages in outreach to potential participants
- Manages enrollment for all workshops
- Works with the Education staff to implement staffing for all workshops
- Manages participant experience by coordinating surrounding supports, such as potential housing opportunities, tickets for relevant Shakespeare & Company performances, and cultural events during the course of the workshops
- Works with Education staff to create, edit, and compile workshop materials for participants
- Attends all workshops as a manager, with duties including: keeping the schedule, coordinating communication with participants, and coordinating spaces accordingly
