Gryphon Oakwood are seeking a Director of Preconstruction to join a leading Electrical Contractor. This role will focus on the Commercial Preconstruction operations including business development and estimating. The role will work directly with the executive leadership team to continue the company growth both in revenue and in team development.


Responsibilities:

Responsible to obtain project opportunities for the Company, and once those projects are obtained, ensures optimum financial positioning occurs
This position manages the collaboration of many estimators on large scale projects and ensures thorough, exemplary customer communications and project results are achieved, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations

Directs and supervises activities of each project for quality and accuracy of work
This includes performing estimates and bidding, assisting with establishing goals and communicating expected standards of performance and quality for others
Determines which projects to pursue, based upon probability and opportunity for future growth
Surveys project job sites as needed for scope of work and to determine the most cost effective and efficient plans are created
Participates in the preparation of construction schedules for estimating purposes
Secures and reviews quotes from subcontractors and vendors
Partners with design department on design/build and design/assist projects to assure the project is designed to optimal achievable cost within the allotted budget
Manages, plans, reviews and coordinates all assigned estimates to maximize time and efficiencies while delivering on promises to customers and co-workers
Works with project team and others to determine general expenses, labor rates, scope and other elements associated with the project
Provides a detailed and comprehensive value analysis to the project team
Manages project workloads/specializations and provides problem resolution advice for estimators and preconstruction managers
Performs regular project risk assessment and mitigation
Ensures estimates and RFP proposals are written appropriately and fulfilled to the customer's and/or the Company's conditions for timing and quality satisfaction
Manages the interview procurement process
Develops and maintains exemplary client and subcontractor relationships and conducts high quality business development activities on a regular basis
Provides incremental cost analysis and scope updates for clients on project work
Leads and implements LEAN concepts and methodologies for continuous improvement of estimating and preconstruction processes
Establishes, trains and maintains estimating and preconstruction policies and processes
Provides regular and high-quality hiring, communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving and training to staff and other co-workers at all levels as needed
Advises and coaches employees and provides performance feedback regularly
Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques and practices
Stays informed of new electrical codes, technology, techniques and practices
Creates and manages the annual financial budget of the preconstruction department and maintains some level of responsibility for Companywide financials
Develops and maintains Accubid software through database evolution and updates
Promotes the Company image through exercising sound and ethical business practices and providing quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers and the public


Qualifications: 

Required Education, Experience and Skills Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in engineering, construction management, building construction, architecture or a related field
Minimum 10-12 years of electrical construction experience in estimating, common code requirements, and design/build estimating and preconstruction with a concentration in large commercial construction projects
Extensive experience with value analysis in all market segments and in-depth trade knowledge
Strong conceptual estimating skills, and experience in reviewing estimates for accuracy and completeness
Knowledge of building construction, materials, costs, systems, market conditions/trends, trade practices and regional differences
Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints and specifications
Experience with computerized software and estimating systems
Strong technical understanding of electrical systems
Conceptual ability to work with minimum amount of information and quickly develop an understanding of the owner/architect requirements
Exceptional business development, relationship building and client communication skills
Strong visionary strategic leadership and communication skills for employee groups at all levels, as well as customers, subcontractors, vendors and other community leaders
Extensive experience with project management leadership and practices
In-depth training and experience with LEAN methodologies and applications
