The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Managing Senior Director of Development. This role is a key strategic partner for the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) and is an essential part of the Office of Advancement at the University of Colorado Boulder. The Managing Senior Director works closely with the Assistant Dean for Advancement and other members of leadership to strategize and advance fundraising efforts for the College of Engineering and Applied Science advancement team.
This position is responsible for leading, managing and coaching a team of six fundraisers and a Development Assistant while also carrying a personal portfolio of donors within an assigned region.The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Team Leadership and Management
- Execute all aspects of managing and leading a team of fundraisers and a development assistant. Examples include:
- Provide coaching and mentorship, especially to new team members.
- Assist with proposal and visit strategy.
- Carry out administrative personnel actions (performance management, hiring, training, onboarding, offboarding, etc.).
- Collaborate on annual metric setting and provide regular feedback to help employee meet goals.
- Serve as a member of the Advancement Management Team. Attend scheduled meetings and collaborate with colleagues on a regular basis.
- Provides budgetary oversight for travel and other operational expenses for the fundraising team.
- Serve as a member of the CEAS Advancement leadership team which provides strategic leadership and direction for the unit.
Portfolio Management and Donor Engagement
- Develop and manage a portfolio of 60-80 individual prospects capable of making gifts at the leadership, major and principal gift level. At this level, the portfolio is expected to be mature and stable with about 1/3 of the portfolio existing in the discovery phase.
- In partnership with the Assistant Dean, develop annual goals around development work (meaningful contacts, proposals, and dollars raised).
- Develop strategic plan for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding each donor as appropriate, collaborating with the system’s gift planning team, colleagues and academic partners when appropriate.
- Conduct regular travel to visit with donors in pursuit of achieving established goals and metrics.
- Document prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluate new prospects and generate stewardship reports and general correspondence to cultivate major gift prospects.
Strategy Development and Other Duties as Assigned
- Lead and provide strategic direction related to performance goals and metrics for advancement initiatives using data, knowledge of campus culture and best practices in higher education advancement.
- Grow philanthropic totals by deepening collaboration with advancement and other campus colleagues for enhanced donor engagement.
- Work closely with the dean, faculty and volunteers to develop and implement fundraising strategies in order to meet established goals and objectives.
- Facilitate positive relationships daily between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
- Represent the University at events to support CU and cultivate donors.
