Description:
The director of development is responsible for implementing the MOST’s plan to raise funds to support the museum’s mission. Duties include the oversight and management of designated fundraising events; identification and cultivation of prospective individual and corporate donors; direction of ongoing communication with and about corporate and foundation funding; and proposal and grant application processes.
Identifying and cultivating prospective donors includes:
- Solicitation of potential sponsors and donors whose funding priorities align with the mission of the MOST and current fundraising initiatives.
- Plan and/or Initiate visits, calls and emails, and meetings with prospective donors for tours and appointments with EVP and/or president.
- Direct ongoing communication and recordkeeping with and about funders ensuring Altru records are up-to-date; determine database standards for development-related modules.
Additional tasks include:
- Overseeing fundraising events, including planning, sponsors, ticket sales, etc.
- Regular communication with donors
- Ensuring accurate and timely sponsorship benefit fulfillment
- Proposal and grant applications, including writing applications, maintaining a calendar for due dates and reports
- Additional museum-related duties as needed
Skills
- Ability to develop and manage projects within established deadlines and with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques and the ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals
- Highly attentive to accuracy and detail
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Experience writing proposals from $5,000 to $500,000 (Documentation and writing samples required)
- Comfortable presenting information in a variety of settings
- Ability to travel during the day
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings and weekends
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fund development or business development
- CFRE designation desirable
