Job Description:
The Director of Design Services works in a leadership role for the Architectural and BIM services department and in collaboration with other Vanir Departments, Areas and staff to lead project planning and programming, design, design review and BIM applications. Maintains management and strategic focus for the successful pursuit, strategy, marketing, acquisition and contract management of new project planing, development and design review business for Vanir.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains the design services group profitability goals, work flow, budgets, and schedules
- Is responsible for hiring and retention strategies
- Interfaces with required project agencies and ensures meeting agency requirements for project development
- Primary contact and liaison for potential clients, owners and principle partner entities for the contract, design, systems, procedures and related deliverables
- Work collaboratively with project management and support services teams (scheduling, estimating, and constructability)
- Capable in creating, developing, and leading project-based teams with an emphasis in scope, schedule, cost, and quality
- Directs all efforts and services of the Vanir Design Services Division including marketing, contracts, production, and project delivery
- Performs in the capacity as the primary AOR as required for Vanir
- Represents Vanir and clients in public hearings, meetings, and presentations
- Oversees and participates in preliminary site master planning, broad planning concepts, prototypical design element development, and project concept definition
- Develops functional programming criteria with the owner for project site and space planning
- Directs the efforts of the program planning and design teams
- Oversees team constructability review division
- Participates in the production of programming design documentation, graphic exhibits and construction documentation as required
- Strong knowledge of leading project development to include building codes, contracts, design, design/construction management, project systems/delivery, and specifications to ensure relation and compliance to project requirements
- Is responsible for the creation of project BIM specifications and standards
- Interacts with required planning department and permit approval agencies
- Manage design teams; including in-house resources and consultants
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related degree is required
- 15+ years full time experience in A/E/C industry, including management of significant architectural projects through construction
- Thorough understanding of construction contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong architectural program development skills
- Strong communication, presentation, writing, and computer skills are essential
- Superior organization and planning skills
- Working knowledge of multiple Autodesk BIM software applications
- Must be able to manage program and project schedules and design / planning resources
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related degree is required
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
- Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Professional certification preferred.
