EMI Advisors is seeking a results-driven Director of Business Operations who will help us advance our operating model that brings people from business, technology, and operations to work in small, agile teams that continuously improve client experience and lower costs through automation.
The Director of Business Operations will be responsible for managing and optimizing the firm’s digital strategy across the contracts and finance business functions. The Director of Business Operations will ensure that the firm’s contract lifecycle management and financial operations draw on a foundation of data, analytics, and software. The ideal candidate has experience in agile working methodologies and capturing value across cross-functional teams using cloud-based solutions. The Director of Business Operations will apply their data-driven mindset to all their domain responsibilities, from contract initiation to renewal and expiration, and in the day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, planning, invoicing, payment receipt, compliance, and reporting. The Director of Business Operations has in-depth exposure to federal government contractors and a strong understanding of government contract accounting, including the percentage of completion contract accounting. The Director of Business Operations will ensure finances are accurate and in line with the firm’s goals and policies, monitor expenditures and budgets across the firm, and determine the firm's short- and long-term financial needs. They will ensure that EMI is compliant with the firm’s internal control policies and that the policies safeguard the firm’s financial performance and assets.
The Director of Business Operations will train, mentor, and manage operations staff and will provide leadership, insights, and advice to drive financial performance and mitigate risks that mirror the firm's adopted digital strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Operating Model Execution
Lead and execute the firm’s digital strategy across contracts and finance business functions.
Help deliver intelligent automation journeys to optimize operating models and enhance employee and client experience.
Contract Life Cycle Management
Oversee all aspects of the CLM process, including initial draft, negotiations, approval/execution, storage, expiration, amendments, and reporting and analytics.
Read, interpret, and evaluate contract terms and conditions, assessing risks to the firm and communicating findings to senior leadership.
Manage product catalog refreshes as needed to maintain compliance with GSA schedules.
Reviews and participates in the preparation of cost estimates for bids and proposals.
Execute non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), terms and conditions, and contract modification requests.
Exercise independent judgment to assess current procedures and develop new policies and data-driven processes.
Develop and conduct federal compliance training with staff, ongoing as needed.
Ensure that standard operating procedures are updated and adhered to.
Respond to requests for information from government officials such as contract audits, CPARS, and protests.
Implement quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives and monitor adherence to rules and procedures.
Assist business development and delivery staff with the interpretation of contract terms, conditions, and requirements to ensure contract compliance and billing accuracy.
Financial Operations
Establish benchmarks using agile methodologies for budgeting, forecasting, planning, invoicing, payment receipt, compliance, and reporting.
Continuously assess and improve financial processes, reporting methodologies, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, firm budget, and actual expenditures.
Implement and/or maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future applicable legislation.
Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of firm assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.
Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly senior management reports, establish operational, project, and administrative budgets, report on variances, and identify ways to control costs.
Evaluate and implement cloud-based integrated solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, tax advisors, and legal counsel. Coordinate external audits and financial reviews.
Lead and mentor the accounting and operations team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and professional development.
Effectively communicate financial information and insights to non-financial stakeholders, including leadership and delivery teams.
Conduct cost-benefit analyses for projects, tasks, or functions.
Monitor invoices, money-handling procedures, accounting, and bank processes.
Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on the financial and operating condition of the firm.
