Position Summary
The Director of Business Operations (DBO) provides personnel and fiduciary leadership to the Ballmer Institute.
The DBO works closely with the Central Business Services Offices (CBSO) on all aspects of personnel operations including but not limited to recruitment, retention, performance management, and oversight of personnel/payroll documents and processes.
The DBO is the budget authority for the institute, providing direct support and management of the institute’s budget and financial operations which are approximately $15 million. The sources of the institute’s budget include general funds, gift/foundation funds, and grant funds. The position oversees and reviews the financial and accounting function of the institute.
The DBO also provides financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and guidance for decision-making to the institute’s leadership. The DBO monitors and analyzes the institute’s budget, provides financial projections, and generates budget and financial reports that allow leadership to make informed decisions on the direction of the institute.
The Director of Business Operations (DBO) reports to the Senior Director and Chief of Staff, providing insight and recommendations on policy and practice that materially impacts financial and personnel operations. The DBO is responsible for providing leadership with the budget and/or fiscal controls and works closely with all levels of faculty and staff to resolve technical and highly confidential issues. Extraordinary attention to confidentiality and discretion is a key requirement of the position.
