As the Global Social Media Director, reporting to the VP Global Brand Strategy & Advertising, you will be in a global leadership role responsible for building a compelling vision and execution plan for our social media channels.
The role is key to delivering on our brand strategy, providing thought leadership, innovation, global strategic thinking and best in class social marketing solutions to drive the business objectives of Global, Regional and Market level marketing partners. Providing both strategic consultation and executional leadership in the effective use of social media. Together we build strategies & solutions that help differentiate Mastercard and position as a top global brand.
The Job
You will play a critical role in defining the social strategy and creating connected experiences that engage audiences across key platforms. This position will synthesize information from external partners and across the organization to deliver clear, measurable strategies that demonstrate Mastercard’s leadership in social media.
You will set the strategic framework for our social media activity to ensure a harmonious approach across the world. You will build a global center of excellence helping define the brand tone of voice/personality and determine the best approach for each social media channel. You will drive strategic thinking on planning, channels, and how we speak from one voice around the world. You will ingest learnings and data from the markets to inform best practices. You will help set guidelines and help drive the direction for paid vs. curated content and collaborate with marketing counterparts around the world to inspire the best work. You need to be both strategic and creative helping centrally develop content that markets can leverage and adapt.
You will ensure that the approach supports our brand expression through visual, and audio design, the Mastercard tone of voice, and our multi-sensory strategy, through the lens of inclusion helping us achieve top 5 global brand status.

The Global Social Media Director will be responsible for the management of our digital agency(s), collaboration with cross functional marketing teams to co-develop (with regional and local teams) and manage a digital content strategy & architecture.
Oversees execution of social media strategies that propel MasterCard brand further into the digital and social ecosystem
Build a center of excellence for social media driving the overall strategy, voice/personality, channel strategy, content approach etc. while also getting learnings and data from the markets to inform best practices
Manages relationship with social agency partners
Devises digital/social media programs and leads digital innovation in social marketing
Creates guidelines and shares best practices
Provides recommendation on digital/social media marketing channels to leverage for greatest impact based on research and analysis
Leverages own networks in digital community to keep abreast of new technologies and trends
Advances organization's thought leadership efforts by educating others, both internally and externally with stakeholders; acts as a subject matter expert
Executing social campaigns and content that will be shared and leveraged globally
Oversees parts of Digital/Social Media budget to ensure that all campaigns, programs, and activities are within allocated budget
Qualifications
First and foremost, you are a nurturing leader & motivator and someone who will be a great example of ‘the Mastercard Way’ and embody your approach to representation, inclusion and fairness
10+ years of strategy experience working on a social team or at a social agency
Strong experience on leading the social strategy, planning, channel approach, developing the voice/personality
Proven experience working on social activations for large campaigns
Proven experience in managing up, across, and downstream with peers and partners
Led complex cross-functional projects locally and globally
Demonstrated success building relationships and delivering results with global, multi-cultural and remote project teams
Proven experience working with creative teams on digital and social platforms (examples of projects encouraged)
Demonstrated success in initiating and executing social campaigns and creating engaging content
Comfortable in managing ever-changing platform landscape while providing clear POV's and willingness to align / educate / compromise with partners
Early adopter and problem solver for digital platforms (Comfortable trying new tools and adapting to process improvements)
Excellent oral and written communication skills including meeting facilitation
