As the Director, Office of Tribal Affairs and Strategic Alliances the incumbent will: Coordinate CDC and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) programs and policies that benefit or affect American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) communities. Advise the Center Director on American Indian/Alaskan Native public health issues. Lead and manage the implementation of the CDC Tribal Consultation Policy/Charter and coordination of the CDC/ATSDR Federal Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC). Collaborate and coordinate with the Office of the Secretary/Department of Health and Human Services and other agency tribal liaisons on HHS-wide tribal activities, particularly the Secretary's Tribal Advisory Committee (STAC), the Secretary's Intradepartmental Council on Native American Affairs (ICNAA), HHS AI/AN Health Research Advisory Council (HRAC) and the HHS Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Serve as the senior American Indian/Alaskan Native advisor and coordinator of tribal public health program activities at CDC and work closely with executive-level tribal government representatives, other HHS OP/DIVs, CDC leadership and center leadership and program staff. Provide CDC executive management with recommendations to overcome shortfalls and deficiencies and formulates alternative courses of action for solution of complex cross cutting issues affecting American Indian/Alaskan Native communities. Integrate knowledge and experience of public health programs and policies to provide guidance on complex, multilayered and multifaceted cross cutting procedural and policy issues to other components of the agency and other governmental agencies; resolve problems and modify procedures. Oversee and set annual long-range work plans and schedules for the work; determines goals and objectives that need additional emphasis; determine long-range staffing needs; and interact closely with high level program officials in the development of overall goals and objectives for the Office.
