Digitization Technician

 

Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve objects from storage for digitization.
  • Scan / photograph objects.
  • Process and rename the files according to museum standards.
  • Work closely with the Museum’s Registrar and Collection Manager and

Senior Manager, Design and Content to review progress on a regular basis.

  • Utilize Digital Asset Management Software to upload Master images and

enter in appropriate metadata pertaining to each image.

 

  • Update or create object records in the collection database (TMS Collections),

as needed, and prepare the records for eMuseum.

  • Assist with the supervision of a part-time Digitization Assistant, and work

closely with this person on all aspects of the project.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. in a related field; M.A. preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience photographing and scanning 2-D objects in a

museum or library setting as well as knowledge of digitization best practices.

  • Knowledge of museum standards and best practices for the care and

handling of objects.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Utmost attention to detail.
  • Absolute discretion when encountering sensitive information and interacting

with couriers and other outside visitors to the museum.
