SMU Libraries and the Norwick Center for Digital Solutions are seeking applicants for the position of Digital Preservation Archivist (non-faculty position). Reporting to the Digital Preservation Librarian/Institutional Repository Manager, the Digital Preservation Archivist will be responsible for processing and cataloging born-digital material that has been donated and/or acquired by SMU Libraries and its special collection subunits, as well as digital assets created by SMU Libraries' Norwick Center for Digital Solutions and housed in SMU Scholar, SMU’s institutional repository and ContentDM, SMU’s digital collections repository. They will support the development and adoption of digital preservation workflows and technology. This position will contribute to the completion of digital preservation projects in a timely manner and allow for sustainable access to digital materials for which SMU Libraries is the custodian.

Essential Functions:

  • Curation, organization, and disposition of born digital material stored on physical media and server storage.

  • Preparation and transfer of born-digital assets for ingest into SMU Libraries' digital preservation system, Rosetta.

  • Digitization of materials on obsolete, legacy media.

  • Cataloging and preserving material housed in SMU Libraries' institutional repository, SMU Scholar.

  • Perform quality assurance of transferred materials.

  • Updating and/or transforming digital preservation and descriptive metadata in SMU Libraries' digital preservation repository and institutional repository.

  • Additional duties related to digitization, metadata, and digital preservation, as required.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters of Library Science or equivalent is required.
  • Record of academic, scholarly, library, or museum related experience with a demonstrable knowledge of special collections, archives, and digitization.
  • Strong data entry and computer skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
