Description:
Working under the supervision of the Senior Development Officer, Grants and Development Communications, the Development Writer is responsible for writing correspondence and other collateral material on behalf of the Museum’s Director, Chief Development Officer, Development staff, and Trustees. Duties include writing specifically tailored acknowledgement letters; maintaining department exhibition and stewardship files; and drafting, editing, and proofreading department text and correspondence, including Annual Fund appeal letters, event invitation text, and other miscellaneous projects.
- Write gift acknowledgement letters for the Museum Director, Chief Development Officer, Campaign Chairman, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees
- Working closely with the Grants and Development Communications Coordinator, evaluate and classify donor gift data to ensure accuracy of acknowledgement letters
- Working with other members of the Development Department, draft general correspondence, including Annual Fund appeal letters, acknowledgement letters, and other projects as assigned
- Working with the appropriate departments within the Museum, prepare, draft, edit, and review development-related content for publications
- At the direction of the Senior Development Officer, Grants and Development Communications, gather and prepare relevant statistics and materials necessary for departmental requests and for donor stewardship (exhibition descriptions, visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc.)
- Provide support, as needed, on grant proposals and reports
- Assist with other writing, editing, and fundraising projects as requested

- Excellent grammar and strong editing skills

- Open learner and comfort with new software systems and demonstrable skills with word processing software and spreadsheets
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies
- Strong contributor in team environments
- Knowledge of art history, museum operations, and/or non-profit arts organizations
