Database Architect

Description:

As a Database Architect specializing in IBM iSeries and AWS, you will play a critical role in migration our customer's infrastructure and application suite from our on-prem datacenters to AWS in support their organization's application modernization strategy. You will work our cross function team and with the client's IT team, developers, and stakeholders to ensure the seamless migration of their applications and database systems.

Key responsibilities:

· Database Design and Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and plan database solutions that align with business objectives, scalability, and performance requirements.

· IBM iSeries Expertise: Discover, Plan and migrate their existing IBM iSeries database environments, ensuring data integrity, security, and high availability.

· AWS Cloud Integration: Lead the integration of IBM iSeries databases with AWS cloud services, leveraging AWS database technologies such as Amazon RDS, Aurora, and Redshift.

· Performance Optimization: Identify and implement performance tuning strategies, query optimization techniques, and best practices to ensure the efficient operation of database systems.

· Data Security: Implement robust security measures, access controls, and encryption to protect sensitive data and comply with industry standards and regulations.

· Backup and Recovery: Develop and manage database backup and recovery procedures, ensuring minimal downtime in the event of system failures or data corruption.

· Monitoring and Maintenance: Establish proactive monitoring and maintenance routines to identify and address potential issues before they impact system performance.

· Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architecture, configurations, and procedures for reference and knowledge sharing.

· Team Collaboration: Collaborate with development teams to support application database requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide guidance on database best practices.

· Stay Current: Stay updated on emerging database technologies, trends, and best practices, and recommend relevant innovations for implementation.

Required Skills:

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

· Proven experience as a Database Architect or similar role with a focus on IBM iSeries and AWS technologies.

· Strong expertise in IBM iSeries (AS/400) database administration and SQL.

· In-depth knowledge of AWS database services and cloud architecture.

· Proficiency in database performance tuning, optimization, and scalability.

· Familiarity with data security standards, compliance requirements, and encryption techniques.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
