Description:
This position will use data to effectively communicate and highlight strategic narratives for the Division of Finance and Administration, using DFA’s Framework for Success approach, which is the underlying system of concepts, principles, and activity drivers for DFA employees to focus their efforts in support of and aligned with OSU’s vision, mission, and strategic plan. The Framework helps DFA employees decide what data to measure, gather, and analyze in order to ensure that DFA makes quantifiable progress toward both strategic and operational goals. The Data Storyteller will use best practices in data visualization to effectively communicate this progress for target audiences which include both internal and external stakeholders.
DFA, as OSU’s largest administrative unit, has a vast portfolio of work spanning finance, operations and administration. Over 20 units report on metrics, which then are incorporated into organizational and divisional metrics.
The position partners with units to identify relevant data points that are in direct alignment with the stakeholder’s selected KPIs. The Data Storyteller uses data visualization techniques to create a strategic narrative or story that allows units or leadership to extract the insights and direction needed to make confident business decisions. As the bridge between stories and data, this position will use data to highlight both achievements and opportunities for growth/improvement within the DFA.
This position is an essential part of DFA IT, a team dedicated to supporting OSU and DFA functions, programs and processes. DFA IT provides planning, IT solutions and critical information to meet the constantly evolving needs of a growing technology and communication ecosystem. Acting as a trusted partner, DFA IT aligns priorities with DFA, University Information and Technology and OSU’s strategic plan to solve tough problems and prioritize and optimize work for the university.
