Description:
Arrr team is lookin' for a new team mate, someone with strong abilities who can join our ship at sea and work on fancy pirate and treasure hunting tools like Erwin, IBM Data Architect, Oracle SQL Developer. We be seekin' a savvy person who knows RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
Arrr client be seekin' a savvy Data Modeler who can design, implement, and document data architecture and data modeling solutions, includin' the use of relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases. Ye'll be workin' closely with data architects to design bespoke databases usin' a mix of conceptual, physical, and logical data models.
Responsibilities:
Chart the Course: Ya gotta know SQL, and ya gotta Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that align with project requirements. Ensure data models accurately represent data structures, relationships, and attributes or to the plank ye shall go!!!
Gather the Crew: Collaborate with stakeholders, includin' analysts and subject matter experts, to gather and analyze data requirements, ensuring that data models meet the project's needs.
Set the Standards: Implement and enforce data standards, ensuring consistency and compliance with relevant regulations and security requirements.
Document the Treasure Map: Create comprehensive documentation for data models, includin' data dictionaries, entity-relationship diagrams, and metadata descriptions to facilitate understandin' and usage by project teams (ya might work on ETL too)
Ensure Smooth Sailing: Work with data integration teams to ensure seamless data flow between various systems and databases within the project, maintainin' data integrity and consistency.
Quality Control: Implement data quality checks and validation rules within data models to identify and resolve data quality issues proactively.
Guard the Treasure: Implement and enforce data security measures, includin' access controls and encryption, to protect sensitive information in accordance with cybersecurity standards.
Govern the Seas: Collaborate with data governance teams to define and enforce data governance policies, ensuring data models align with governance requirements.
Optimize the Ship: Optimize data models for performance and scalability, considerin' the large datasets and complex queries often encountered in projects.
Work with the Crew: Work closely with other data professionals, such as database administrators, data engineers, and data analysts, to ensure that data models align with the broader data architecture and strategy.
Map the Territory: Work closely with the database engineers to create optimal physical data models of datasets, then create and maintain data maps and systems interrelationship diagrams for data domains and systems.
Improve the Voyage: Identify areas where data can be used to improve business activities, defining business users’ requirements.
Innovate the Fleet: Understand data flows and implement innovative data solutions.
Set the Standards: Define and govern data modeling and design standards, tools, best practices, and related development methodologies for the organization.
Name the Treasure: Set standards for document naming, security, and lifecycle & retention architecture.
Recommend the Course: Provide recommendations for standardization and proper data usage in business, and communicate the benefits and return on investment for application and product owners.
Desired Skills:
Tools of the Trade: Proficiency in data modeling tools such as Erwin Data Modeler, IBM Data Architect, or Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for creating and maintaining data models.
Database Mastery: Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) commonly used in DoD projects, such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with DoD data standards, including the DoD Information Enterprise Architecture (DoD IEA) and the DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
SQL Savvy: Strong knowledge of SQL for querying and manipulating data within databases.
Governance Tools: Understanding of data governance and metadata management tools that may be used in DoD projects, such as Collibra or Informatica Axon.
Security Expertise: Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards, including the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
Integration Skills: Understanding of data integration technologies and tools, including ETL processes and data integration platforms.
Quality Assurance: Proficiency in implementing data quality checks and ensuring data quality within data models.
Documentation Skills: Strong documentation skills for creating clear and comprehensive data model documentation.
Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong technical documentation skills.
Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
Customer Service: Proven track record in a demanding, customer service-oriented environment.
Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical skills, organizational abilities, and problem-solving skills.
Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of business domain, the data requirements, and the data sources.
Conceptual Thinking: Ability to identify key entities, attributes, and relationships that represent the data in a logical and coherent way.
Creative Modeling: Have conceptual thinking in creating data models that are clear, accurate, and relevant.
Qualifications:
Education: Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other Technical discipline required (Must have Degree).
Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years equivalent work experience is required.
Preferred Experience: Prior experience in data modeling, database design, and data architecture, particularly in DoD or government projects, is highly desirable.
Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), are a plus (not needed).
