Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Propose, curate, and organize collection displays and loan exhibitions (in any medium), including the writing and preparation of related scholarly catalogs, brochures, didactic texts, wall texts, and online resources.
  • Coordinate with outside curators and institutions involved in the museum’s exhibition program.
  • Oversee preparation of exhibition design and installation and recommend topics for future exhibitions and catalogs.
  • As related to exhibitions, represent the Center within the scholarly community through participation in panels, symposia, and other forums.
  • Work with the Executive Director on budget and planning related to exhibitions.
  • Partner with Penner Manager of Educational Programming to develop and implement exhibition-related programming to engage the Center’s wider regional community.
  • Help prepare and edit materials to promote, publicize, and interpret exhibitions and related programs.
  • Deliver lectures and talks related to the exhibitions throughout the year to serve as the primary representative of the exhibitions.

Knowledge, Education, and Experience:

  • MA in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related discipline with an emphasis on Bauhaus.
  • Knowledge of Herbert Bayer and Bauhaus movement and a keen interest in developing connections and relevance between this history and the present.
  • Five-plus years of museum experience, including a distinguished record of exhibitions, publications, and patron and press cultivation in a museum context.
  • Excellence in public speaking to a wide range of audiences—whether in person or via digital channels—including students, patrons, colleagues, and the general public.
  • A strong and diverse network of professional contacts in the field.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working independently and as a team member.
  • Close attention to detail and practicing discretion.
  • Ability to represent the Bayer Center with high integrity and professionalism, adhere to Aspen Institute policies, and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
  • Collegiality with stakeholders, the public, Institute Trustees, donors, and volunteers.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective communication with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Track record of meeting deadlines while juggling current and long-range projects.
