Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Propose, curate, and organize collection displays and loan exhibitions (in any medium), including the writing and preparation of related scholarly catalogs, brochures, didactic texts, wall texts, and online resources.
- Coordinate with outside curators and institutions involved in the museum’s exhibition program.
- Oversee preparation of exhibition design and installation and recommend topics for future exhibitions and catalogs.
- As related to exhibitions, represent the Center within the scholarly community through participation in panels, symposia, and other forums.
- Work with the Executive Director on budget and planning related to exhibitions.
- Partner with Penner Manager of Educational Programming to develop and implement exhibition-related programming to engage the Center’s wider regional community.
- Help prepare and edit materials to promote, publicize, and interpret exhibitions and related programs.
- Deliver lectures and talks related to the exhibitions throughout the year to serve as the primary representative of the exhibitions.
Knowledge, Education, and Experience:
- MA in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related discipline with an emphasis on Bauhaus.
- Knowledge of Herbert Bayer and Bauhaus movement and a keen interest in developing connections and relevance between this history and the present.
- Five-plus years of museum experience, including a distinguished record of exhibitions, publications, and patron and press cultivation in a museum context.
- Excellence in public speaking to a wide range of audiences—whether in person or via digital channels—including students, patrons, colleagues, and the general public.
- A strong and diverse network of professional contacts in the field.
- Outstanding writing, editing, organizational, management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working independently and as a team member.
- Close attention to detail and practicing discretion.
- Ability to represent the Bayer Center with high integrity and professionalism, adhere to Aspen Institute policies, and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
- Collegiality with stakeholders, the public, Institute Trustees, donors, and volunteers.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
