Description:
We are looking for a Creative Director to join our Brand and Communications team within our Marketing department. In this role, the Creative Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our creative vision to position athenahealth as the most admired and considered brand in healthcare IT. This individual will lead a talented team of creatives (design, copy and video) and work closely with cross-functional partners to drive the development of impactful marketing campaigns and programs that resonate with both internal and external B2B audiences.
The ideal candidate will be a creative problem solver that possesses the ability to adapt to a fast-paced delivery model with a keen ability to balance budget, resource, and time constraints. As part of the Brand and Performance team, the Creative Director be responsible for helping us build and amplify our brand. You’ll help guide our agency partners and play a pivotal role in crafting and embedding our brand throughout all creative and experiences.

Job Responsibilities
- Build, inspire, empower and manage a team of talented designers, copywriters, and producers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Lead the production of brand, creative and marketing materials. With an eye for simplicity, bring your passion for category-breaking creative and ensure work is meeting the highest standards.
- Push creative boundaries to expand athena’s capabilities to transform complex information into simple, easy to understand experiences to support the brand and business across new and immersive mediums and activations.
- Player/coach leader, with the ability to roll up your sleeves and provide creative support for high-visibility projects. When team is at capacity, we expect you to lean-in and create.
- Manage and evolve the creative briefing process to improve efficiencies, alignment, and proper discovery.
- Manage and optimize a high volume and fast-paced delivery model, with an ability to balance creative excellence with operational requirements (resources, budget, and timing).
- Develop talent, manage and direct creative team, and provide oversight of all team assignments, working closely with marketing operations on bandwidth, resourcing, process creation and refinement, and capacity models.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related discipline
- 15+ years of experience in a design role
- A minimum of 10 years in a leadership position
- Proven experience managing, scaling, and optimizing high-functioning multi-disciplinary creative teams in a fast-paced environment
- Preferred candidates will be located in Central or Eastern time zones
- A strong portfolio showcasing prior work, (please make sure to include/submit this with your resume)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch or Figma as well as the Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively as a member of a highly collaborative team of designers, developers, copywriters, and stakeholders
- Ability to impact and influence high-level stakeholders – persuasively and effectively building confidence in creative organization and our ideas, concepts, and new approaches to working – through both formal and informal channels of collaboration and connection.
- Ability to engage and inspire others around our brand and creative storytelling. Player/coach leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves when necessary
- Have superior ability to prioritize and simplify complex information into clear, compelling creative.
- Have experience leading creative development within complex industries.
- Be a manager and leader of people who have a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate resources in both direct and indirect reporting relationships.
