Description:
The County Planner is a full-time, exempt position under FLSA. The County Planner is responsible for performing professional planning duties, including conducting planning studies, research and analyses; collects and presents data and prepares reports; provides information and advice to the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Researches, drafts, and revises comprehensive land use plan and development regulations to implement goals and policies of county comprehensive master plan.
2. Reviews development proposals and site plans for conformance with County codes, plans, and regulations.
3. Prepares and presents reports on development proposals to the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.
4. Collects a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and occupancy rates.
5. Create and / or update various databases, documents, maps or forms essential to the operation of the office.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or related area of study in addition to two years of planning experience is preferred, but any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, ability and skills may be accepted.
AICP designation preferred. Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
