Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Cultivate professional development and placement opportunities for Arts & Sciences graduate students, initially master’s students in Economics, Statistics and Data Science, Mathematics, and related programs working closely with department colleagues, the Office of Graduate Studies Student Affairs team, and other university partners such as the Career Center and The Graduate Center. This includes research and developing best practices and networking and training opportunities with on-campus and industry partners as well as advocating for students in different placement pathways; facilitating workshops and events for professional development and placement conversations.
- Serve as the OGS liaison to departments that are cultivating such professional development opportunities, e.g. the Department of Economics Master’s Management Committee. In addition to interfacing regularly with faculty colleagues in this role, this component of the position includes data collection and tracking of student outcomes.
- Meet regularly with students in the Economics, Statistics, and Mathematics master’s programs to understand professional goals and provide placement guidance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social sciences, statistics or data science, mathematics or business administration, and three years’ related experience. Knowledge of the fields of economics, mathematics, statistics and data science as well as the professional landscape for these fields.
- Three to five years’ experience working in higher education, preferred in areas of career and professional development, graduate program coordination, or comparable industry experience.
- Connections with industry and private sector partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in teaching, learning, and research opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience as a collaborator across a variety of units and project types, in particular with faculty, staff, and administrators on projects that innovate in graduate education.
- Significant knowledge of liberal arts curricula, the fields of economics, statistics and data science, and mathematics, and the ability to interact with various campus partners and external stakeholders.
- A strong understanding of the professional landscape for graduate students with strong mathematical, statistical, data and policy analysis skills.
- Knowledge of trends in graduate education and their relationship to institutional needs.
- Ability to development assessment metrics for professional and placement initiatives.
- Professional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with a commitment to serving students, faculty and external constituents.
- Ability to deal discretely with confidential matters.
- Ability to function in a team atmosphere and prioritize multiple assignments with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work independently and actively solve problems.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Ability to learn quickly and adjust to changing priorities and workflow.
- Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as basic graphic design / photo editing platforms.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus one year of related work experience.
